08 Jul Encouraging new talent in the workplace
Joseph Ward first joined Adept Contracts through a weekly work placement while completing the second year of his T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning at Reaseheath college. From the outset, he made a positive impression with his enthusiasm, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn.
Having thoroughly enjoyed his initial experience with the business, Joseph returned during his college holidays as a paid employee. During this time, he continued to build his skills and knowledge, gaining valuable hands-on experience and becoming a highly respected member of the team.
Following the successful completion of his T Level, Joseph was offered a full-time position in recognition of his dedication and his tangible contribution to the business. In a further investment in his personal development, the company has now offered Joseph a Degree Apprenticeship, which he will begin this September. As part of the programme, Joseph will study towards a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Fire Engineering at the University of Central Lancashire, attending the university in two-week blocks each academic term. This will allow him to combine academic study with practical industry experience, further strengthening his knowledge and professional development.
Joseph’s colleagues consistently praise his positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to embrace new challenges. Recently, he has also demonstrated excellent leadership potential by supporting new work experience students, helping them settle into the workplace and sharing his experiences to support their own development.
Joseph’s journey is a fantastic example of how meaningful work experience can create life-changing opportunities. By providing young people with the chance to develop practical skills, build confidence, and gain valuable insight into the workplace, organisations can help open the door to rewarding long-term careers. We are delighted to support Joseph as he embarks on the next stage of both his academic and professional journey.

Mark is passionate about improving opportunities for young people, particularly at a time when the number of young people classified as NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) continues to rise. He firmly believes that businesses have an important role to play in supporting the next generation and helping them gain access to meaningful employment opportunities.
By investing in young talent, the company is demonstrating its commitment to developing a sustainable workforce for the future – one that provides opportunities for motivated young people to learn, grow, and build successful careers. Joseph’s success story highlights the positive impact that such opportunities can have and serves as a powerful example of what can be achieved when potential is recognised and nurtured.
