18 Jan Winner of Outstanding Collaboration Award
Adept Contracts, Queenswood Engagement and Selectaglaze worked together with their client, SCS jv, to coordinate and deliver the rapid deployment of noise mitigation measures to 122 residential properties that surrounded the construction site on the Mandeville Road Ventilation Shaft. Changes to the construction methodology and programme put pressure on the Mandeville Road Project Team, creating a need to work 24/7 days over an extended period. This situation was unforeseen in the Hybrid Bill and, as a result, was not expected by local communities. This change to the works created noise, dust, and disruption. The Project Teams work hard to minimise the community impact through effective collaboration.
Running alongside this, there was also a higher-than-expected number of potential Special Cases identified, which required careful management and collaboration with HS2’s advocacy provider POhWER. There was a reluctance by local residence to take up the offer to put the mitigation measures in place . This was an incredibly difficult job to get buy-in from the local communities. The Team worked hard in not only winning hearts & minds but also in mobilising quickly to install these measures. This was done by engaging, face-to-face with the local communities through information events held in their local community hall and demonstrating and explaining the options to the residents of the area.
The companies involved in this work set the bar high in terms of diplomacy along with managing technically demanding and complex projects across the supply chain that involve the community, resolving their issues. This Outstanding Collaboration Award is, indeed, well deserved.
