Capability Statement: Intumescent Paint Repairs

Adept Contracts are experienced specialists in the application and repair of intumescent paint systems. Depending on project requirements, we are fully equipped to coat steelwork both on-site and off-site.

Over the last year, we have increasingly been engaged by new and existing clients to carry out repairs to off-site–applied intumescent coatings, typically where the original steelwork contractor is unable to undertake patch repairs and coat unpainted bolts, or when additional secondary steel, connections, or unpainted add-ons have been introduced as design changes. We have also completed surface preparation activities, including abrasive blasting, as well as assessing and selecting compatible primer applications in accordance with client requirements. Due to the nature of the work, certain tasks must be carried out within live plant rooms, requiring meticulous planning and the implementation of comprehensive protection measures.

Our teams consist of FIRAS audited qualified technicians and supervisors, all trained and competent in the application and repair of intumescent coatings. We can mobilise nationwide at short notice to undertake these works.

Our Repair Process & Quality Assurance

All works are carried out in accordance with a strict Inspection & Test Plan (ITP), ensuring each stage is fully controlled, recorded, and compliant. Key steps include, but are not limited to:

  • Verification of substrate compatibility
  • Confirmation that environmental conditions are within required tolerances
  • Application of coatings strictly in line with manufacturer’s instructions set out clearly in the ITP

Dry film thickness checks and curing verification

Daily photographic records are captured through our digital reporting app and transmitted to the client in real time. All quality assurance documentation is produced progressively, with evidence logged using industry-recognised asset-tagging platforms such as Boris and OneTrace.

On completion, all data is compiled into a comprehensive O&M package, supported by important items such as a Certificate of Conformity, any bespoke technical assurances from fire engineers or client derogations and FIRAS certification.

Where required, documentation and inspections can be issued in staged handovers to suit the client’s programme and release areas progressively.

Our assurance packs provide a clear, traceable, and complete record from start to finish, supporting the client’s Golden Thread requirements.
